Wind Turbine Ice Protection
Since the world’s best wind regions are often located on mountains and/or cold climate areas, more and more wind turbines have to be placed where rotor blade icing is an issue. The most important points for customers are reliability and profitability, which can only be reached when the turbines downtime is reduced to a minimum.
Our business is to „fight the ice“ to keep the turbine running. By the integration of the Villinger heater layer on the rotor blade surface as a retro-fit, or into new rotor blades during the manufacturing process, we offer one of the most versatile wind turbine ice protection systems available.
Lightning Protection
Since lightning protection is a big issue on rotor blades, the de icing system has to be resistant against lightning strikes. For this reason, Villinger R&D did several lightning tests in a laboratory in Munich to prove the suitability of different heating technologies and lightning protection.
3 in 1 Rotor blade Upgrade
Another invention of Villinger R&D is the implementation of a heating system into a leading edge erosion protection. The goal is the development of a retrofittable ice protection system which acts as a 3 in 1 rotor blade Upgrade: De- Icing, erosion protection and lightning protection.
All over the world, wind energy is shaping up to an important industry. Turbines have to operate for 20 years and more to work profitable. Often good wind areas are avoided because the downtimes due to ice can be too high. Villinger R&D is your partner for the realisation of an effective ice protection system on your already existing-, or future turbine.
